Hello! We are three people who live in an old 4-bedroom farmhouse at the edge of the village of Trumansburg, and we are in search of someone to move into one of the upstairs bedrooms. The room is small (10'x16') with great natural sunlight coming in the east and south-facing windows. It has some built-in shelving and cupboards, and extra closet space in the hallway just outside the room. The pipe for the woodstove runs through the room, so it gets warm in the winter when we have a fire going. You would share the upstairs bathroom with two of us. We are open to considering a couple to join our household, in which case we can make a bigger room available for you.

This is an ideal place for anyone who enjoys nature, gardening, landscaping, swimming, and doing projects on the land. There is a small farm plot and large high tunnel/greenhouse on the land, which is being operated this year by a local farmer. There is additional space to grow your own veggies, a big yard for outdoor activities, and a clean pond for swimming. The property is within walking distance of the Farmers Market, Gimme Coffee, Main St. Market, and many restaurants and other fun shops! Across the creek is a public natural area that’s great for exploring the woods.

There are three of us in the household: Eva is a vibrant woman in her prime who works at the Foundation of Light and is a keen meditator. Josi is a non-binary masculine artist-person in their early 30's transplanted from NYC, interested in cultural change rooted in spiritual science, and currently working for Cornell Dining. Shelly is a heart-centered socially-emotionally conscious being, fifty-ish, interested in alternative medicines and making nutritious foods, and she enjoys exploring various volunteer work while healing as she is at the end of a physical recovery journey.

We like to live with people who practice mindfulness, have an open mind, and are committed to living in community. We value deep listening, honest discussion, and a caring attitude. Each of us has a spiritual focus, and we strive to support each other in our practices and our well being. The world is so intense these days, and living with others who share some basic values around mindfulness, compassion, joyful living and interbeing is a very grounding experience!

One of our guiding principles is something Charles Eisenstein wrote about Reverence - carrying the awareness that we are all sacred beings. You can read that (https://charleseisenstein.org/essays/we-can-do-better-than-this/) and it should give you an idea of what we are striving for in our little community.

We have gone through different phases around cooking together and sharing meals. Currently we have a meal together each month before our house meeting, plus some unplanned gatherings and meals. We share chores and cleaning, and work together to gather firewood. And we have a far infrared sauna in the house! Pets are a strong possibility.

The rent is $720 per month for the small room; this includes electric, gas, water and internet. We like to heat the house with the wood stove in the winter, though we do also have forced air heat. If one of the larger rooms is used (for a couple), the rent is $770, plus an additional charge for the extra person. A $500 security deposit is required, along with the first month’s rent, and we use a month-to-month lease. The room is available for a June 3rd move-in, though we can make arrangements if you need to move in on June 1st.

Please send us a reply if you would like to get more information. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your interests and your experience living in community with others, and then we can set up an initial phone call.

Peace,
Eva, Josi and Shelly
