Hello! I have a Buff Orpington rooster (Sheldon) that I am looking to rehome. He is free to someone who wants him. He is 1 year old. I raised him from a chick and he was the odd one out in an all female set of chicks. I do not find him to be too aggressive towards hens or people and that is not why I am getting rid of him. Unfortunately he has created some bald spots on the hen's backs and heads when mounting them. I am a new chicken owner and have only had them for one year.
I do not think Sheldon is aggressive compared to some stories I have heard about other roosters. He sometimes jumps up and bats at my feet, but I just stick my foot out and poke at him till he is tired. He sometimes charges people other than me. I am sometimes able to reach out and scratch his beak, although he does not like be touched other than that.
When the hens are out foraging, and one finishes laying, and calls out to the group, he runs back to get her and brings her to the group. When foraging, he will call to the hens when he finds something interesting.
I really do like him, but as a new chicken owner, I am trying to eliminate as many variables as possible to make things run smooth. I would not try to rehome him if I thought he was obnoxiously aggressive. I am happy to answer any questions about his temperament
