Modern Art from the Mikus Estate - $1 (Ithaca)

509 Esty St. near Route 13

google map

The Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library is now holding its Spring Sale. In addition to the 250,000 books and other media for sale, we have a special collection of fine art from a generous donor.

Noted minimalist Eleanore Mikus was a member of the Cornell University art faculty for decades, and remained in Ithaca after she retired. She LOVED Ithaca, and in particular, she loved the Ithaca Friends of the Library Book Sale. She came to every sale she could, and mused to her daughter that the FOL really should hold three or four sales every year.

The estate of Professor Mikus has donated a number of artworks, including signed pieces by prominent late 20th century artists like Noemi Smilansky, Raphael Soyer, and Ithaca's own Stephen Poleskie. These works can be viewed and purchased from our Collector's Corner shop at 509 Esty St. in Ithaca during its opening hours (from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on May 6, 11, 12, 13, 18 and 19). As always, all proceeds benefit the Tompkins County Public Library and groups promoting literacy in our community.
